China's Foreign Ministry called the U.S. claim that it is seeking a new democratic world order without China inconsistent with the spirit of the latest meeting between the two leaders.

Geng Shuang, a spokesperson for the ministry, recalled that the bilateral meeting on the sidelines of G20 summit was concluded with applauds from both sides. He asked why some of those present at the meeting are making contrary remarks.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Tuesday promised a new democratic world order in which Washington will strengthen or jettison international agreements as it sees fit to stop "bad actors" such as Russia, China and Iran from gaining.

China is a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development and a defender of the international order, Geng said, adding China has always firmly defended multilateralism and safeguarded the international order as well as the multilateral system.

Apart from economic and trade issues, China and the U.S. also agreed to expand cooperation, manage differences, and jointly promote bilateral ties in the meeting, Geng added.

China is committed to promoting the construction of new international relations and building a community of shared future for mankind, Geng said.

The international community knows how the U.S. acts on the international stage, Geng said, adding the US has flagged the "America First" policy and applied international law in a selective way with double standards for its own benefits.

The spokesperson said that history shows when we properly handle each other's core and major interests, China-U.Sh relations will grow smoothly, otherwise, they will be in trouble.
