The promotion conference on building similar overseas environment was held on October 20 in Jinan, East China's Shandong province. At the meeting, the first batch of international communities (blocks) in Jinan was licensed and three foreigners living in the city were invited to serve as volunteers for foreign-related services.
In recent years, Jinan has made great efforts to enhance its international influence, competitiveness and attraction. The city's living and business environment has been greatly improved. Three local standards have been released and implemented including China's first general guide for international community construction and management. Working with departments of civil affairs, health care and education, Jinan has vigorously promoted the establishment of international communities, hospitals, schools and foreign-related centers. A series of foreign-related service manuals such as The Guide for Foreigners Living in Jinan have been published.
Measures have been taken to further standardize the English translation of the names of public service agencies and to improve the situation in the use of international languages. The knowledge of international etiquette has been popularized and citizens' civilized quality greatly improved.
Jinan will spare no effort to foster a similar overseas environment which is suitable for working, living, learning, health care and financing in an all-round way.
