Initial results achieved by Shandong’s foreign affairs research and development think tanks

On December 30, the Information Office of Shandong Provincial People’s Government held a press conference to brief on the province’s work on the “Foreign Affairs +” action.

According to the press conference, this year, the Foreign Affairs Office of Shandong Provincial People’s Government has, based on the resources of universities and research institutions, established Shandong Foreign Affairs Research and Development Think Tank, to support the “open-door consultation”, “open-door decision-making”, and scientific policy-making, and to promote the theoretical and practical innovation in the province’s foreign affairs work.

After rigorous assessment procedures, up to now, 11 research institutions have been approved as the first batch of Shandong Foreign Affairs Research and Development Think Tanks, including the “Belt and Road” Research Center of Shandong Provincial Party School, the International Sinological Research Center of Shandong University, the Iceland Studies Center and the African Studies Center of the University of Jinan, the Research Institute of China, Japan and Korea of Shandong University of Finance and Economics, the “SCO” Area Studies Think Tank of Shandong Jiaotong University, the Research Center of Labor Relations in “Belt and Road” Countries and the Sino-German SME Innovation Management Research Center of Shandong Management University, the EU and German Research Institute of Qingdao University of Science & Technology,  ,,,,the Shandong-ASEAN Research Center of Dezhou University, and the Pacific Island Countries Research Center of Liaocheng University.

19 research subjects have been initiated, concerning the “Belt and Road” Initiative, China-Japan-Korea Free Trade Area, China-Africa Industrial capacity cooperation, strengthening the province based on marine development and the province’s cooperation with ASEAN, Germany, Russia, Central and Eastern Europe and other key countries and regions, Sino-foreign cultural and educational exchanges, etc.

Research on some of these subjects has achieved remarkable results. For example, Shandong-ASEAN Research Center of Dezhou University held an academic symposium on the theme of “Shandong-ASEAN Cooperation and Exchange in the Post-epidemic Period”, presenting research results on promoting the building of China-ASEAN community with a shared future based on the creatively-forged “Shandong momentum” from various perspectives and at multiple levels.

Besides, after the signing of the RCEP agreement, the Foreign Affairs Office immediately mobilized the think tanks and experts of Shandong Provincial Party School and Shandong University of Finance and Economics, to carry out system analysis of the impact of RCEP, and proposed valuable advice and suggestions.
