According to traditional phenological observations in China, approximately 10 days after the solar term of Yushui (Rain Water, February 18 this year), apricots are blooming.
Apricot trees at various spots in the Daming Lake Scenic Area are in full bloom.
Apricot (Prunus armeniaca) originates from China and is widely distributed. It has been cultivated in China for at least two to three thousand years. The age of the tree can reach more than one hundred years.
The flowering period of apricots is generally in March, usually coinciding with the second month of the lunar calendar, so the second lunar month is also known as “the month of apricot” in traditional culture.
In the Year of the Ox, the date Spring Festival was late and spring arrives early. Though it’s not yet second lunar month, the apricot blossoms in the Daming Lake scenic area are already in full bloom.
Apricot blossoms are red in bud, pink while blooming, and pure white when they fall.
In Daming Lake scenic area, early spring flowers such as Forsythia and Magnolia are also in bloom.
Other spring flowers are still in bud.
